Jaina dharma or Sramana dharma is the oldest and very influential religious tradition in India.
It has been a major cultural, philosophical, Literary, social and political force since the dawn of Indian civilization.

About Us

The idea of electronically documenting all Jain Epigraphical information started on the auspicious day of Shruta Panchami, remembering the way Digambara Jain monk Dharasena Acharya thought about preserving the Jain Agamas and started to document it through Acharya Bhutabali and Acharya Pushpadanta. This historic event inspired to document Jaina Epigraphical evidences and heritage information and to share it with the people across the world.

This idea was shared and discussed with Prof Hampana and Prof Kamala Hampana, who overwhelmingly supported to bring it to reality on the auspicious celebration of Lord Mahaveera Thirtankara’s first Sermon day – Veera Vani Jayanti/ Veera Sashana Jayanti (Divas) by completing the structure of this online library.

Jain Epigraphy website (Online library of Jain Epigraphy) is unique of its kind and the whole idea of the Jain Epigraphy website is to electronically document all the Jain inscription information from across India, to facilitate academic community for their studies and research and also to help the general public across the world to read and understand the importance of Jaina Epigraphical information.

In the first stage we started to document Kannada Jain inscription and then expand it to pan India Jaina inscription information of all the languages with English as a common language, keeping original language on every Jain inscription. On our e-library all the Jain inscription information is an open book and freely accessible to people across the world.  

Jain Epigraphy e-library is an independent entity & we are happy to work with all the organisation and like-minded people across the globe.

Contemplating on the need for such a Forum we have launched this under the banner of Jain Epigraphy. The forum is a dream come true of many scholars working in the field of inscriptions, history, palaeography and allied disciplines.

The scope of this channel is unlimited and it’s a hold all. The broad based forum is not confined to any particular language or script or region. It’s multilingual and open for contribution by young and old in the language in which they are comfortable. Many youngsters working in the field were in search of a common platform for exchange of latest discoveries and for publishing new material. We earnestly hope this will provide a proper platform for unlocking the hidden valuable wealth of Jaina world of Epigraphy.

ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಬಿಗಿ ಬನಿ ಏನೆಂಬುದನ್ನೂ ಅದರ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಯ ಆಯಾಮ ಎಷ್ಟೆಂಬುದನ್ನೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಗಳಿಂದಲೂ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಶಕ್ತಿಯ ವಿಲಾಸದಿಂದಲೂ ಜೈನಲೇಖಕರು ಸಾಬೀತು ಪಡಿಸಿದರು. ಸೃಜನಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವೆಂಬ ಕಾಕಿಣೀರತ್ನದಿಂದ ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷೆಯ ರತ್ನದ್ವಾರದ ಕವಾಟೋದ್ಘಾಟನೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಅಖಂಡ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೂ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕೂ ಗಟ್ಟಿ ತಳಪಾಯ ಕಟ್ಟಿದರು. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ, ಕನ್ನಡದ ಸಾರೋದ್ಧಾರ ಮುಂದುವರಿಕೆಗೆ, ಖಣ್ಡಸ್ಫುಟಿತ ಜೀರ್ಣೋದ್ದಾರಕ್ಕೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನೇ ಸರ್ವನಮಸ್ಯ ತಳವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ಅವರ ಕೃತಿರೂಪದ ದಾನ ದತ್ತಿಗಳು ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೇ ನಿಲ್ಲಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಕಾಲಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಾಕೃತ- ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಭಾಷೆಗಳ ಆಘಾತದಿಂದಲೂ ಆಕ್ರಮಣದಿಂದಲೂ ಕನ್ನಡವನ್ನು ಪಾರುಮಾಡಿ ಪುನರ್ಭರಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. ಅರಿವಿಂಗೆ ಓಜರಾದ ಆ ಪರಮ ಆರ್ಹತರು ಓಲೆಗರಿ ಮುರಿದು ಮುಕ್ಕಾದರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಪ್ರತಿಯೆತ್ತಿಸಿ ಕಾಪಾಡಿದರು. ತಾಮ್ರಶಾಸನಗಳು ತ್ರಟಿತವಾಗ ತೊಡಗಿದಾಗ ಪ್ರತಿಶಾಸನಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆಸಿದರು ಹಾಗೂ ತಾಮ್ರಶಾಸನದಿಂದ ಶಿಲಾಶಾಸನಕ್ಕೆ ವರ್ಗಾಯಿಸಿದರು. ಜೈನರಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಈ ಬಗೆಯ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಕಾಳಜಿಯ ಸಂಕಥನ, ಉದಾರತೆಯ ಹಾಸು ಶಾಸನಗಳ ನಿಕ್ಷಿಪ್ತದೊಳಗಿರುವ ಅಮೂಲ್ಯ ತವನಿಧಿ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಜೈನಶಾಸನಗಳು ಕನ್ನಡ ನಾಡಿನ ಮರುಜೇವಣಿ.(ಸತ್ತವರನ್ನುಪುನಃ ಬದುಕಿಸುವುದೆಂದು ನಂಬಲಾದ ದು ಬಗೆಯ ಔಷಧೀಸಸ್ಯ).

ಜೈನ ಕವಿಕಾವ್ಯ ಪರಂಪರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಸನಗಳ ತಿಳಿವಳಿಕೆ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ಲೇಖಕರು ಹಲವರಿದ್ದಾರೆ.ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಸ್ವತಃ ಶಾಸನಗಳನ್ನೂ   ರಚಿಸಿರುವ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಕವಿಗಳೂ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕಾವ್ಯಗಳನ್ನಲ್ಲದೆ ಶಾಸನಗಳನ್ನೂ ಬರೆದಿರುವ ರನ್ನ,ಶಾಂತಿನಾಥ, ನಾಗಚಂದ್ರ ಜನ್ನ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಕವಿಗಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ತಮ್ಮ ಕೃತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಸನಗಳನ್ನು ಉದಾಹರಿಸಿದ ತಂದೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾದ ಚಿದಾನಂದ ಮಲ್ಲಿಕಾರ್ಜುನ – ಕೇಶಿರಾಜ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ತೆರನಾದ ನಾನಾ ವಿಚಾರ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳಕಿಗೆ ತರಲು ನಮ್ಮೀ ಜೈನಶಾಸನ ವೇದಿಕೆ ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಿದೆ.
